Most of my activities center around my wife and three children. We enjoy fencing, hiking,
playing fetch with our sweet dog, looking for whales in Puget Sound, cooking, and watching movies together. The
three boys keep us busy with their activities.
I believe in practicing what
I preach. The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of
moderate physical activity at least 5 days a week. I make an effort and find the
time to exercise and stay physically fit. I am a volunteer coach at Metro Tacoma Fencing Club. All three of my boys
fence, and it is wonderful bonding time for us. I am also an active competitive
fencer having achieved the distinction of being among the 2% of
fencers nationally having earned competitive ratings in all three weapons
(épée, foil, and sabre). In 2011 I earned my professional fencing
coach's certificate (Prévôt in foil which is one level below fencing master) from the US Fencing Coaches Association. In 2013 I
earned my referee ratings. I was ranked 2nd in the United States for the 50-59 year old men's épée
category after the Summer National Championships in 2022 and earned a coveted spot on the Veteran World Team representing
the United States in the World Championships held in Croatia. The US Fencing Coaches Association granted me a title of Master in épée in 2024. I am always
trying to better myself in all that I do from sports to medicine. I have
more about my passion for fencing on my fencing
website.
I am very interested in
art and computers so web design is a natural extension of my hobbies. If I
had to choose my one favorite activity for myself it would be photography.
I started taking pictures seriously in high school, and I haven't been
able to go anywhere without a camera since. Below are some of my pictures.
I am thrilled that my
picture, Castle Geyser, won first place in the Proctor Arts Festival competition in the photography section on 4 August 2007. Multicare also
purchased one of my photographs titled Sunset at the Beach for the pediatric
waiting room at Mary Bridge Hospital in 2013.
